Activity 1: Flying Solo - Day 2

Day 2 : 17 December 2019 - Up in the air
Activity 1 : Flying solo

Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart are two famous women know both for their great achievement of being first women to complete some amazing solo flights, that no one had ever yet achieved. Although although both women being solo flyer, Jean batten was well known for her several-record breaking solo flight and was also the first ever person to fly solo from England to New Zealand, while Amelia Earhart was known for being the first ever woman to complete a non-stop solo flight from Canada to Ireland. While Jean and Amelia both made their success during the 1930's, Amelia's travels were cut short due to her sudden disappearance by the Howland island in 1937 (aged 39) , while Jean lived a life where parties where thrown in her honour till she also passed away in 1982 (aged 73). Jean Batten being born in NZ and Amelia Earhart being born in America, have both brought great pride and honour to their countries and will both be remembered for their amazing achievements.

Hi Limi, this is Mrs Collins again and I'll be commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. I really like the venn diagram you have created about two awesome aviators - do you want to be a pilot when you leave school, or maybe a flight engineer or are you still looking at a career in law? Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

Kia ora Limiteti,

I like how you added in the fact that Jean Batten was thrown parties in her honour! Have you ever though about what it would be like piloting a plane?

Kind regards,
Riiana
