Day 2 : Tuesday 31st December - Cracking the code
Activity 1 : Through careful observations
The lovely painting "The starry night", painted by Vincent Van Gogh is very popular. When I look at the painting I see many tiny houses and a few Mountains, as well as a sky that looks to have had much thought into creating. The way the sky was created looks very strange and odd but its really what captures my attention when looking at the painting. When looking at the sky, the whiteness looks like the clouds swirled up and the yellow dots look like they represent the Moon and stars, and how bright they shine in the night sky. What also captures my attention is the black figure that takes up a good amount of the painting, to me it looks like black flames, but I'm not too sure what it really is or represents.

Hi Limi...in Starry Night the contoured forms are a means of expression and they are used to convey emotion. Many feel that van Gogh´s turbulent quest to overcome his illness is reflected in the dimness of the night sky. The village is painted with dark colors but the brightly lit windows create a sense of comfort. Starry Night was painted while Vincent was in the asylum at Saint-Rémy and his behaviour was very erratic at the time, due to the severity of his attacks. Unlike most of Van Gogh's works, Starry Night was painted from memory and not outdoors as was Vincent's preference. I believe it is in the museum of modern art in New York - or it was in 2005 when I was there. keep blogging and commenting into 2020!
Kia ora Limi,
The sky is what catches my attention too. There is something so magical and luminous about it, right? What made you choose this image to observe?
Do you do art in school Limi? Also - something for you to consider doing as a subject is Art History. I studied Art History in high school, and you look at some of the most magical and breathtaking pieces of art, like this one!
Nga mihi

Kia ora Limiteti,
Art is such a great way to express your emotions. It's very therapeutic.
I don't know what it is but I love seeing art works like this, they're very enchanting! Have you seen any other art works from Vincent van Gogh?
Kind regards,
Riiana
