Day 4 : Thursday 2nd January
Activity 1 : Medical Mavericks
Michel Mayor (on right)
For this activity I choose to read about the 2019 Nobel prize in physics, awarded to Michel Mayor. Michel was awarded the physics award for discovering an "for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star" . Michel was born on January 12th 1942, in Lausanne, Switzerland and was 77 at the time. Also at the time of receiving the award, Michel Mayor was affiliated with the University of Geneva, in Geneva Switzerland. Although Michel was not the only one to receive the 2019 Nobel prize in physics. He also shared the award with his partner Didier Queloz, but it didn't stop there. Not only did they have to share the award with each other but also with James Pebbles (but only for the theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology). So Michel was only awarded 1/4 of the prize ( along with Didier, but James receiving 1/2 of the prize).

I guess an award is an award regardless of how much you receive...Keep blogging Limi and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!
Kia ora Limiteti,
I had never heard of an exoplanet until I read through this activity. Do you know what exoplanet was orbiting the solar-type star?
Kind regards,
Riiana
