Winter Learning Journey - Day 1
100% Pure New Zealand
Activity 1
1. Around 1000 years ago, according to the maori the first Man explorer to reach New zealand was Kupe. Using the stars in the sky and the ocean currents he navigated his waka (canoe) through the pacific ocean, all the way from Hawaiki. From his homeland hawaiki, it was thought that he arrived at the Hokianga Harbour in the North island.
2. In New Zealand many of us have grown a passion of going to the great out doors. With so much coastline it not surprising that most of us love the ocean. Fun fact, there are over 10% of New Zealand families that own a boat. its no surprise when we dominate world yachting, kayaking, windsurfing and rowing scene. hiking, camping, fishing, bush and beach walks are other popular outdoor activities they we love to do.
3. The people of New Zealand are very welcoming people. We are relaxed, friendly and loving people, that will be the highlight of your trip if you come to New Zealand ( the people). Starting a casual conversation with the locals in bars or restaurants can help you get insider details about the place you are at. they can also help you choose the best places to go.
Activity 2
1. The Auckland museum is one of the places a family or couple should visit. it shows us more about our cultures, and the histories of the war there is a ginormous wall dedicated to the soldiers they had passed during the battle. At the museum there are other cool yet mysterious things still to discover.
2. In the North Island you can have a great experience at the lions rock. the lions rock is a great place to visit if you are looking forward to having a swim, taking a long/short walk, taking a dive under the deep blue sea or even just having a nice time fishing or surfing.
3. A great day out with the family would be to go to the zoo. Filled with many lovely, adorable and friendly animals its a place were the children would love to go. while making new animal friends they are also given the chance to feed them as well.
4. Another nice day out with the family would be going to rainbows end. rainbows end is packed with lots of fun rides for the whole family to enjoy. during the day if you want a little break the you can have a seat a watch some performances that they put on for you.
5. At Auckland city there are many adventurous things to do one of them is it bungee jump off the sky tower. with the tower at 220 meters tall the edralin running through your body is mind blowing. Many prefer not to bungee jump off the sky tower, but they instead watch inside the tower.
Bonus Activity
For my flag I chose the colours blue, black, green and white. blue because it represents the ocean and the pacific people. black because it is one of our national colours. green because it represents New Zealand and how we are all down to earth. white because it is one of our national colours and it represents the europeans/pakeha people. I chose the two leaves because they remind me of the ferns.
